Senior Exercise Classes at Meadowbrook

Senior exercise resumes at the Meadowbrook community room on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11 a.m. Feel free to drop in and join instructor Robyn Centrella, a licensed instructor who specializes in senior fitness. Movements will be set to motivating music from different genres and decades. The low-impact exercises are designed to enhance mobility, strength, flexibility and balance. This class is sponsored by the Town of Norfolk Recreational Committee and is offered at no charge to Norfolk residents.

Norfolk Artists & Friends August Exhibit

A new exhibit of works by Norfolk Artists & Friends will be on view at the Norfolk Library during the month of August. An opening reception for the artists will be held on Sunday, Aug. 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from sales benefits the Norfolk Library Associates and the many free library programs they fund.

Norfolk Lions Club Raffle

The Norfolk Lions Club is conducting a raffle to raise money for club activities. The 12 prizes range from a painting, to nights at an inn, to gift certificates to local stores and services. Tickets, which cost $5 for one, $20 for five and $40 for 15, are on sale Saturday mornings, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Norfolk Farmers Market, or call 860-485-4305. The drawing is at the market on Aug. 21, at 12:30 p.m., and winners do not have to be present to win.

Chamber Music Festival

The last two concerts are the season are on Friday, Aug. 6, the Emerson Quartet playing works of Shostakovich and Beethoven; and on Saturday, Aug. 7, the series finale, featuring works of Montgomery, Mozart and Tchaikovsky. Both concerts are streamed live for free at 7:30 p.m. There will also be a virtual, fund-raising gala on Thursday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m. Details to be announced.

Pollinator Pathways
On Monday, Aug. 16, from 5 to 6 p.m., Norfolk Hub Talks hosts “Pollinator Pathways, ‘Bee’ on It,” a presentation on the many ways that Norfolk residents can help create a healthy environment for its citizens, pollinators and the entire web of life. The presenter is Mary Hogue, member of the Pollinator Pathway Steering Committee, a UConn Master Gardener and Master Composter and a co-chair of the CT League of Conservation Voters. Registration for this virtual webinar is required, at norfolkfoundation.net/hub-events. 

Virtual Studio Tour With Hilary VanWright

Hilary VanWright will talk about her current work in a virtual studio tour for the Norfolk Library on Tuesday, Aug. 17, at 5:30 p.m. Hilary received a BFA from the Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia and worked as an art director for Vanity Fair and New York Magazine before moving to Norfolk in 2017. Along with the region’s stunning scenery, the overwhelming feeling of peace and sense of community in Norfolk inspire her multifaceted artwork. Community Supper

There will be a free community supper on Aug. 24 at 5 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Norfolk. Linda Garrettson, a certified nutritional counselor, will create a healthy and affordable meal for all to enjoy. The event includes a short talk on nutrition, followed by a meal of seasonal foods and local produce. Norfolk Library Annual Book Sale

The 44th Annual Book Sale will take place under the tent on the weekend of Aug. 27-29, beginning Friday, the 27th, at noon. Books are free on Sunday after 2 p.m. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to browse through thousands of amazing books, mostly hardcover, donated over the past two years from Norfolk’s private libraries. Proceeds benefit the Norfolk Library Associates and support the library’s free cultural programs. 

NVFD, Past, Present, and Future

On Monday, Aug. 30, from 5 to 6 p.m., Norfolk Hub Talks goes “on the road” to the firehouse, at 20 Shepard Rd., for an in-person talk led by Jonathan Barbagallo, second assistant fire chief, assisted by Chief Matt Ludwig and department historian Richard Byrne. They will provide a brief history of the organization and highlights from their recent strategic development plan, along with plans and ideas for the new firehouse. Norfolk Land Trust Save the Date

The Norfolk Land trust will hold a fund-raising evening on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Broad Field Farm. There will be live music by The Prowlers, featuring Maura May, plus dinner, drinks and dancing. For more information, go to the land trust’s website.
