Intuitive Painting Workshop 

Explore, express and elevate the world within with Viktoria Seavey, healing life coach. Intuitive artmaking is a gentle and effortless approach to partner with the artist and the healer within us to utilize our life-fulfilling gifts. Join one or all classes. Haystack Book Festival

From Oct. 1 through 3, Haystack Book Festival, a program of the Norfolk Foundation, Inc., brings writers and thinkers together in unmoderated conversation to explore new ideas, concepts, and designs in literature and in the arts. Events held in person at the Norfolk Library, and via livestream from the Norfolk Hub or from home. Indigenous People’s Day in Norfolk

On Monday, Oct. 11 at noon, meet at Norfolk Town Green to honor, celebrate, and support indigenous peoples of our region and worldwide. We will assemble and then walk together for climate leadership to “speaker’s rock” in nearby Barbour Woods for songs, poems, prayers, and remarks closing the event around 1:30 p.m. For questions or to register, contact healingnestnorfolk@gmail.com. Alicia Mordenti Exhibit at the Norfolk Library 

Paintings by Alicia Mordenti, a resident of Washington, Conn., will be on display for the month of October at the Norfolk Library. An opening reception for the artist will be held on Sunday, Oct. 3 from 4 to 6 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from sales benefits the Norfolk Library Associates and the many free library programs they fund. Please wear a face mask and thank you for your support.

Storytime at the Norfolk Library

Children in first and second grades are invited to come to the Norfolk Library for the Merrymakers story time on Mondays from 3:45 to 5 p.m., beginning Oct. 18, although children may join at any time in the year. The story hour will be filled with stories, movement, crafts, and a pop-in guest every so often. Our first guest is Sylvie, a Great Pyrenees rescue dog, who will visit us with her trainer Jen Pfaltz for a special series called “Look Who’s New In Our Town.” Registration for Merrymakers is required. Forms are available at the library and will also be passed out at Botelle. Forms must be received by Miss Eileen, the children’s librarian. Children should wear face masks. Author Talk with Lynn Katz 

Lynn Katz began writing her first novel when she retired as the principal of Union School in Farmington, CT. The ideas for her domestic thriller began in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook mass shooting, a tragedy that took place at an elementary school not far from hers. Her book, The Surrogate,   is not a book about a school shooting. It is a novel that explores the psychological profiles of a would-be mass shooter and the teacher who tries to help him. On Thursday, Oct. 7, at 5:30 p.m., Katz will talk about her book at Norfolk Library and discuss how her experiences as a principal informed this thrilling story. A Conversation with Mark Scarbrough

Visiting Our National Parks: Lessons Learned

On Thursday, Oct. 28, at 5:30 p.m., John Bunker will give a virtual presentation and slide show for the Norfolk Library on his adventures and misadventures at some of his favorite national parks: Badlands, Bryce, Canyonlands, Glacier, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, and Zion.   His presentation includes a YouTube video of hiking Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park and over 70 images of his travels to the parks. Moon Rising Walk at Dennis Hill

Join the Norfolk Land Trust for its annual moon rising walk on Friday, Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Dennis Hill State Park off Route 272 South. Norfolk resident Ted Hinman, a teacher of Bioscience and Environmental Technology at A.I. Prince Technical School, will lead the walk and talk about the night sky. Please gather in the parking lot below the Dennis Hill pavilion for the walk to the pavilion. We will social distance. Remember to pack your mask.   Also, bring headlamps or some type of illumination and dress warmly.   In the event of inclement weather, this will not be rescheduled.

Norfolk Fire Department Fundraiser

The Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department (NVFD) is again conducting its annual fundraiser during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   NVFD is again offering t-shirts to promote breast cancer awareness and may be purchased by contacting the department at norfolkfirect@gmail.com. Over the past 10 years, this fundraiser has donated over $4,000 to the Norfolk Children’s Foundation in memory of Laverne Barbagallo, mother of NVFD’s second chief and public information officer, Jonathan Barbagallo.
