Elizabeth “Betty” Ann (Olsen) Barlow passed from those who loved her to those who were waiting for her on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, in Charlotte, N.C. She was born in East Hartford, Conn. in 1937, daughter of the late Florence Bertha (Whitehead) Olsen and Oscar Leroy Olsen.

Betty is survived by two sons, David (Michelle) of Davidson, N.C., and John III (Megan) of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Ashton Elysabeth, Carter Anne, James Grant, and Addison Claire, all of Charlotte; and her dearest cousin who she called her sister, Joyce Costner of Preston, Conn. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, John “Jack” Russell Barlow, Jr and her brother, Gilbert Olsen.

Betty worked many years at the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, Conn. where she met her husband, Jack.

Betty was an avid bowler and golfer as well as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a lifelong member of the Eastern Star, the Connecticut Chapter. She enjoyed following the UConn Women’s Basketball Team and all her trips abroad with her husband and friends.

Before settling in Charlotte to be with her family, Betty lived many years in Connecticut and Florida. She made many friends and touched so many lives wherever she called home. She enjoyed the last six years with her friends at Waltonwood Providence Independent Living Community.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to her doctors and nurses at Presbyterian Hospital Charlotte for caring for her the last month.

Mrs. Barlow will be buried beside her husband at a later date in Center Cemetery, Norfolk, Conn., behind the 1832 Greek revival home she and Jack lovingly restored.
