Birthday Party and Puppet Show
On Saturday, April 2, the Norfolk Library will celebrate the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen with a presentation by the Lionheart Puppet Company of one of Andersen’s most famous fairy tales, “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” at 10:30 a.m., followed by a slice of birthday cake. Art Exhibit at the Norfolk Library
The woodcuts and linocut prints of John Johnson will be on display at the library during the month of April. A reception for the artist is on Sunday, April 3, from 4 to 6 p.m., hosted by the Norfolk Library Associates.
Move, Drum and Have Fun
Kristin Mudge is starting a new class in Battell Chapel on Monday evenings at 5:45 p.m. starting on April 4. Exercise to music with rhythm and movement using a chair, a large fitness ball, drumsticks and other fitness props. Drop-in fee of $10 per class benefits the Church of Christ Congregational. Manhattan Chamber Players
On Thursday, April 7, at 5:30 p.m., the Manhattan Chamber Players will perform works by Mozart, Brahms and Bruch at the library. Formed in 2015, MCP is made up of musicians who are former students of the Curtis Institute, Juilliard School, Colburn School, New England Conservatory and Yale School of Music. Garbo Film “Ninotchka”
On Friday, April 8, at 7 p.m. the library will screen “Ninotchka,” starring Greta Garbo. The film will be introduced by film historian Robert Dance, whose book “The Savvy Sphinx: How Garbo Conquered Hollywood” has recently been published.
Events at the Library Celebrating Ukraine
On Saturday, April 9, at 3 p.m., the Nadia Ukrainian dancers will present songs and dances of Ukraine at the library. This performance is cosponsored by the Church of Christ. On Sunday, April 10, at 2 p.m., via Zoom, the work of Ukrainian poets in two anthologies, “Words for War” and “What We Live For, What We Die For,” will be read to celebrate the literary culture of Ukraine. Easter Services at St. Martin of Tours
Easter services for St. Martin of Tours parish will be held at St. Joseph Canaan. The schedule is Holy Thursday Mass, April 14, at 7 p.m.; Good Friday service, April 15, at 3 p.m.; and Easter Vigil Mass, April 16, at 8 p.m. On Easter Sunday, April 17, Mass will be at 9 a.m. at St. Mary Lakeville, and at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Norfolk.
Food Pantry Open Saturdays
The food pantry and clothes closet in the basement of Battell Chapel will now be open on one Saturday (the third one) of each month, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This month, the pantry will be open on April 16.
Artist Reception
On Thursday, April 21, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. there will be a reception for the artist Erika Crofut at the Norfolk Hub. Her exhibit will be up for the rest of the month.
Spring Cleanup Day
Please join us on Saturday April 23, for our annual town spring cleanup. Meet at the Hub at 9 a.m., rain or shine. Please bring a pair of work gloves and wear appropriate foot gear. Let’s team up to cleanup! Sponsored by the Norfolk Community Association.
How to Respond to an Opioid Overdose
On Tuesday, April 26, from 6 to 7 p.m., Norfolk Hub Talks hosts “Recognizing and Responding to an Opioid Overdose,” presented by Sarah Toomey, from Greenwoods Counseling & Referrals. Each participant will receive a Narcan kit at no cost. To register for this free event, go to the Norfolk Foundation website; limited to 30 individuals.
A River Trip Through the Grand Canyon
The library’s virtual travel series continues on Thursday, April 28, at 5:30 p.m. with a rafting trip through the Grand Canyon.
