Funeral Gathering for Suzanne Dooley

The family of Suzanne T. Dooley welcomes friends to attend her funeral service at the Church of Christ Congregational on Sat., May 14, at 10 a.m. Reception in the chapel to follow the service, at 12 Litchfield Road, on the village green.

Art to Assist Ukraine: A Fundraising Art Sale

On Thurs., May 5 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., the Norfolk Hub Talks presents a reception kicking off an art exhibit and fundraiser running May 5 to June 28. Numerous artists’ work will be on exhibit and 100% of the proceeds from purchased artwork will be donated to Assist-Ukraine.org, a grassroots organization created by Norfolk resident, Anne Garrels and her friends Art Davidson and Heinz Coordes, to help provide needed supplies to the people of Ukraine who are fighting for their lives and their future.

90 Day Planning Workshop: A NWCC Small Business Seminar

Lions Club Offering Scholarships

The Norfolk Lions Club is offering scholarships to Norfolk residents graduating from Northwestern Regional 7 High School or a private/alternate school. Scholarships are offered to students planning on attending a college/technical school in the fall. Applications may be picked up at the National Iron Bank, the Berkshire Country Store or the guidance department at Northwestern. Applications should be sent to the Lions Club, PO Box 399, Norfolk. Deadline for applications is May 15th.

Art Exhibit at the Norfolk Library 

The abstracted landscape paintings of Suzan Scott will be on display at the Norfolk Library during the month of May in an exhibit entitled “closely observed loosely rendered.” A reception for the artist will be held on Sun., May 1 from 4 to 6 p.m., hosted by the Norfolk Library Associates.

Food and Clothing Availability

The food pantry and clothes closet in the basement of the Battel Chapel will be open on the third Saturday of each month for area residents in need. This month it will be open May 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome.

Book Launch: The Year of the Horses with author Courtney Maum
On Tues., May 3, at 5:30 p.m. the Norfolk Library will host Courtney Maum for the launch of her memoir, The Year of the Horses. For this event, she will be in conversation with author Elissa Altman. Sharp, heartfelt, and cathartic, The Year of the Horses captures a woman’s journey out of depression and the horses that guide her, physically and emotionally, on a new path forward. The Bumble Bees of Connecticut: Common, Rare & Declining Species

In this Norfolk Hub Talks presentation on Mon., May 16 from 6 to 7 p.m., Tracy Zarrillo, a wild bee scientist in the Department of Entomology at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, will talk about the decline of several species of bumble bees, the diversity of bumble bees in CT (16 species documented) and how to identify species one might encounter.  Monuments Men Program 

In recognition of VE Day on May 6, the Norfolk Library will present a virtual program on the Monuments Men on Thurs., May 5, at 5:30 p.m. with Anna Bottinelli, President of the Monuments Men Foundation for the Preservation of Art. The Monuments Men were a group of American and British men and women, who risked their lives to preserve the artistic and cultural achievements of western civilization from the destruction of war and theft by the Nazis. Look for Birds in Haystack State Park

Join the Norfolk Land Trust on an early morning excursion at Haystack State Park to look for Spring birds at 7:30 a.m. on Sat., May 14. Experienced birder Susannah Wood will lead the group on a walk through the park. Meet at the pond, approximately 0.4 miles from the entrance on Route 272 North. Please wear walking shoes, bring binoculars and dress appropriately — it is tick season. 

Chamber Music Concert at Library
