Volunteers Needed—Free Concert Tickets!
The Norfolk Chamber Music Festival is looking for community ushers for Friday and Saturday evenings this summer at the Shed. Ushers will take tickets, hand out programs and guide people to seats. Community Tag Sale on WIN Weekend
Join in the community tag sale around town from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, during Weekend in Norfolk. Hold your own or grab neighbors for a group sale. Photo Exhibition at the Norfolk Library
The photography of Babs Perkins will be on display at the Norfolk Library throughout July in an exhibit entitled “Moving Landscapes.” Perkins is a cultural documentary and landscape photographer. She has traveled extensively in the Balkans, Ireland and Iceland, creating parallel and complementary bodies of work in both styles. A reception for the artist will be held on Sunday, July 3, from 4 to 6 p.m., hosted by the Library Associates.
The Norfolk Ambulance: Everything You Wanted to Know But Were Afraid to Ask
Join a Norfolk Hub Talk on Monday, July 11 at 6 p.m. to learn about the history of the Norfolk Ambulance and the many ways you can be of service to this all-volunteer organization. Deputy Chief John Riedeman and Training Officer Bill Brodnitzki will speak on volunteer opportunities, what it’s like to be an EMT, tips for supporting someone while waiting for help, simple first aid and more. Mindful Yoga Mondays
Join Miranda Lee on Monday evenings July 11 through Aug. 29 for mindful yoga to de-stress, re-energize and strengthen. Classes are from 6 to 7 p.m. at Battell Chapel. Home in a Vibrant Community
Look all around Norfolk for temporary public art all month. An art, housing and community connection initiative by the Yale Norfolk School of Art, Foundation for Norfolk Living and the Norfolk Foundation, the project is funded by the Litchfield County Center for Housing Opportunity. Free Drawing Classes at the Art Barn
The Yale Norfolk School of Art is offering free drawing classes in July on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Tuesdays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Art Barn. Live models and drawing materials are available. Masks and proof of vaccination required. Sponsored by the Battell Arts Foundation.
Mindfulness Tools and Training
In this four-week course at the Norfolk Library, Miranda Lee will teach participants how to live a more mindful life and equip them with tools to help build resilience against the challenges of daily life. Norfolk Library Meandering Mondays
The library’s summer reading theme is Oceans of Possibilities, with special events on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. Look eye-to-eye with amphibians (July 11); step inside a bubble (July 18); learn to breakdance with Tiger (July 25); and meet a freestyle frisbee champion (Aug. 1). Better Solutions Saturdays
On Saturday, July 16, stop by the Hub from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a free, eco-friendly Swedish dish cloth. Summer Reading Seminar
Among the great literary works from the past is Virgil’s “Aeneid,” an epic yoking together a new version of the Iliad and a new version of the Odyssey. Teen Leaders Wanted
The Norfolk Library is planning a teen-centered project to engage the teens of Norfolk. It includes a designated teen space in the library and the formation of a Teen Advisory Council to suggest teen services and programs. TAC members will be paid a monthly stipend for a year commitment. Interested teens should return an application, found at norfolklibrary.org, by July 30.
