New Town Projects Underway and Others Almost Completed
By Matt Riiska
Fall is here and there has been no let-up in projects in Norfolk. Trying to get everything done before the snow flies has been keeping us busy and other than a few rainy days, Mother Nature has more than cooperated.
The bridge on Mountain Road is almost complete. Watching the Mountain Road bridge come together has been very interesting. Using as much as the original stone and design features has made the bridge a real show piece. The paving of Mountain Road will continue with a planned completion by the first week in November. J.J. Brennan Construction, which was tasked with the installation of the water main on Mountain Road, is currently working on a water main on Westside Road between Route 44 and Aetna Lane. Last winter this old water line broke twice, causing quite the mess. The water, main will be completed and the road will be paved in early November as well.
The River Place bridge project has been slowed by a few issues with the way the current bridge was constructed after the 1955 flood. Unfortunately, the project has been extended, with a planned completion date of June 1, 2023.
With the winter season coming, we all need to remember to get a flu shot. In addition, we are teaming up with the Connecticut Department of Public Health in sponsoring a Covid vaccination clinic on Thursday, Nov. 10. The clinic will be at Town Hall from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is open to all for individuals from six months plus. Please see the notification on the norfolkct.org website.
With the weather cooperating as much as it has, take some time away from your fall chores and get out for a walk and enjoy.
Take care and stay healthy.
