Board of Selectman Approves Requests
Eye on Town Government
At their Nov. 2 meeting, the Board of Selectmen (BoS) voted on two motions.
The BoS affirmed the request from the Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) to opt out of Connecticut’s Public Act 21-29, which would relax some restrictions on accessory apartments. First Selectman Matt Riiska said that, after discussions with Mike Halloran, Norfolk’s zoning enforcement officer, and with other first selectmen in the Northwest Hills Council of Governments, he agreed with P&Z’s unanimous decision to opt out.
The BoS also voted unanimously in favor of an act authoring a deferral of property revaluations from Oct. 1, 2022, to Oct. 1, 2023. The deferral was requested by the town assessor, Lucy Hussman. Riiska said that it has been five years since the last revaluation, and a postponement was not uncommon.
