Dewey Drop-In
Local artists and creatives of all kinds have a new destination and outlet on winter Wednesday evenings. Dewey Memorial Hall in Sheffield, Mass., has launched a new series called the Dewey Drop-In (DDI) that will feature readings, jazz jams, music and art soireés and game nights on a rotating schedule.
The first Wednesday of each month is titled “Use Your Words” and encompasses writing, readings and storytelling. An impressive array of accomplished local writers will take turns hosting the evenings. Each week has a basic theme, such as memoir, grief, adventure or “lives lived wildly off script.”
Second Wednesday Jazz Jams are hosted by Brian Kantor, owner of Soundry Studio in South Egremont. The house band, led by Luke Franco, invites local jazz musicians to join them for informal jam sessions.
On third Wednesdays, drop by for host/organizer Michael Lesko’s popular Show & Tell series, where open mic meets variety show. It is an open creative soirée with visual artists and a headlining act.
The fourth Wednesdays are Game Night with hosts Michael Siktberg and Maggie McRae. Attendees are encouraged to “bring a game or join a game.”
Dewey Drop-In starts at 7 p.m. every Wednesday at 91 Main Street in Sheffield. Dinner items can be ordered in advance from Roberto’s Pizza, if desired, and beverages are for sale in the hall. Call 413- 429-1322 for additional information.
