A group of Norfolk dog lovers has come together to create a town dog park, where dogs can safely play off-leash and their people can relax and socialize. The Friends of Norfolk Community Dog Park, an all-volunteer group, will fund the building and maintenance of the park entirely through private donations.
A local landowner has leased the group a two-acre tract for the dog park and parking area that is within a 58-acre parcel on Westside Road. The site is set back from the road, and all abutting property owners have been notified of the project. The park will be fenced and similar in design to the popular dog parks in Salisbury and Egremont.
A public hearing for the community to discuss the proposed park will be held during the Feb. 14 Planning & Zoning Commission meeting. The commission will then decide whether to approve the project.
