Remembering John Curtiss

John Francis Curtiss, 60, passed away peacefully at home Dec. 24, 2022. Born in Winsted to the late Francis and Gertrude (Augustyn) Curtiss, he worked as an electrician. John was a volunteer fire fighter in Norfolk for many years and belonged to the Norfolk Curling Club. He served as a Eucharistic minister at Immaculate Conception Church of Norfolk, where he was a faithful parishioner.

While growing up, John spent many summers with his Auntie Ann and Uncle Ted working their farm. He attended Oliver Wolcott Tech in Torrington, where he learned his trade. He started work with Turri Electric in Torrington and had recently been part of the team at Griffin Electrical in Southington, Conn. In his younger years, he enjoyed curling and traveling to bonspiels, where he was nicknamed “Boomer.” Until 2021, John lived at the family home on Sunset Ridge in Norfolk, the town he loved. John was a true friend to many there. He then lived with Mary and Stephen McGovern in Wilbraham, Mass.

John will be sadly missed by his eight siblings, Susan C. Anderson (James) of Kittery Point, Me.; Alice A. Curtiss (Richard Galbo) of Buffalo, N.Y.; Mary C. McGovern (Stephen) of Wilbraham; Nora R. Sethi (Harwant) of Greenland, N.H.; Margaret E. Curtiss and Maureen F. Curtiss (Dean E. Beaman) of Winchester, N.H.; Francis R. Curtiss (Bonnie) of Dalton, Mass.; and Christine M. Wolfanger (Jody) of Avon, N.Y. John was a devoted uncle to his 14 nieces and nephews: Gretchen, Nicole, Brenna, Rick, Clare, Liz, Abigail, Aidan, Harwant, Jr., Tara, Lindsey, Will, Jack and Indy. A funeral Mass was held on, Dec. 31 2022, at Immaculate Conception Church. Memorial contributions can be made in John’s name to the Norfolk Curling Club, P.O. Box 102, Norfolk, CT 06058.
