Carolyn Marie Dodd, 1951-2023
Carolyn Marie Dodd of Norfolk died peacefully at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington on Feb. 20, 2023.
Carolyn had bravely fought cancer and was believed cured but had a recent recurrence which led to her unexpected passing.
Carolyn was born on July 5, 1951, to Henry Dodd, an automobile dealer and collector, and Martina (Cannon) Dodd, a registered nurse and, later, professor of nursing at UConn. Carolyn grew up in Norfolk and was a graduate of Norfolk Center School, Mount Saint Joseph Academy in West Hartford and Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY.
Following a career in insurance and employee benefits, Carolyn returned to Norfolk to care for her elderly mother. For a number of years she was the facilities manager for the Yale Summer School of Music and Art and took special pride in providing a welcoming environment to faculty, students and patrons, while offering summer job opportunities to local youth. On top of everything else Carolyn also established a personalized pet-care service and was beloved by her extended family of four-legged “fur babies” as she called them and their owners. She was the kindest, most generous, selfless person ever and will be greatly missed.
Carolyn is survived by a brother Joel Dodd of Middletown, Conn.; a brother and sister-in-law Martin and Susan Dodd of Canton, Conn. and Gloucester, Mass.; a niece Melanie Dodd and her fiancée Brian Hansen of Wethersfield, Conn.; and a niece Leila Dodd of Brooklyn, NY.
Calling hours will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church located at 160 Main St., Torrington, Conn. on Saturday March 11, 2023, at 9 a.m. followed a 10 a.m. Mass. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to The Little Guild Animal Shelter at 285 Sharon-Goshen Turnpike, West Cornwall, Conn. 06796 or https://www.littleguild.org/.
