Art Exhibit at The Norfolk Hub – Susan W. Rood

Artist Susan W. Rood will display her art at the Norfolk Hub from March 2 through Apr. 28. “Piecing It All Together” presents singular and combinations of linocuts and monoprints to create visual narratives. Film Screening at the Library: Selma

The Norfolk Library will present a screening of “Selma” on Monday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m. This is a true story of courage and hope that changed the world forever. Golden Globe nominee David Oyelowo shines as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who rallied his followers on the historic march from Selma to Montgomery in the face of violent opposition. This landmark film was released in honor of the 50th anniversary of the historical march and nominated for Best Picture in 2015. Art Exhibit at the Library: Leslie Landau

Recent paintings and drawings by Leslie Landau will be on display at the Norfolk Library during the month of March. “Earth and Sky” is the artist’s response to the ever-changing nuance, presence, and power of atmosphere upon land and sea. A resident of Torrington, Landau’s work has been included in many exhibitions across Conn. and NY, and she was the recipient of the Philanthropic Institute’s Artist Renewal Her work is held in private collections throughout New England, New York, Ohio, Washington and California. A reception for the artist will be held on Sunday, March 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the library.

Medicare and Social Security 101

On Tuesday, March 21, your questions about Medicare will be answered. This educational program at Norfolk Hub is designed for people who are nearing retirement, ages 55 and up, who have questions about social security and Medicare.

Documentary Film: Call of the Forest – The Forgotten Wisdom of Trees

The Norfolk Conservation Commission is sponsoring a screening of the documentary film “Call of the Forest: The Forgotten Wisdom of Trees” at the Norfolk Library on Thursday, March 9 at 7 p.m. Written by and featuring Diana Beresford-Kroeger, the film draws the viewer into the green world that sustains life on this planet. All CT Reads: When Women Were Dragons  

Please join us on Sunday, March 26 at 2 p.m.. for our All CT Reads book discussion of When Women Were Dragons” by Kelly Barnhill. Set in the 1950s, this speculative fiction alternative history of the United States provides an interesting and thought-provoking twist on female choice, especially as we celebrate National Women’s History Month in March. Wild Magic at the Library

Federally Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator and Animal Control Officer Angela Grano will bring Wild Magic to the Norfolk Library on Wednesday, March 29, at 3:30 p.m. Wild Magic is an interactive wildlife program dedicated to bringing awareness and personal pro-action for habitat conservation through the telling of true, and often astounding, stories. Contemporary German Film Series

 At the Norfolk Library on Thursday evenings in March, film director Diego Ongaro will introduce three powerful and unique films that recently sprouted from the Berlin School, a German film movement that started in the mid 90s and created radically new images of German society: “Toni Erdman” (March 16 at 6:30 p.m.), Western” (March 23 at 6:30 p.m.), and Great Freedom” (March 30 at 7 p.m.). Please visit the Norfolk Library website or call 860-542-5075 ext. 2 to register for this program.

Cookbook Author Talk

 March is National Nutrition Month, and best-selling cookbook author, Terry Walters, will be at the Norfolk Library on March 20 at 6 p.m.. to introduce her cookbook “NOURISH – Plant-based recipes to feed body mind and soul.” NOURISH features 200 vegan and gluten-free seasonal recipes, abundant information on healthy cooking techniques, tools, and tips, plus an entire section dedicated to fermentation and gut health. Please visit the Norfolk Library website or call 860-542-5075 ext. 2 to register.
