Finally, a good excuse not to mow the lawn

Spring has returned in all its mud and glory to Norfolk, and once again local groups such as the Norfolk Conservation Commission and United Church of Christ are encouraging residents to participate in No Mow May. The movement asks people to leave their properties unmown this month to provide a more nurturing habitat for bees and other pollinators as they emerge from their wintering grounds. Allowing common lawn flowers—clovers, violets and yes, even dandelions—to bloom will create a beneficial habitat and ready food source for early-season pollinators.
