Ronald J. Sloan, 91, died peacefully on May 19, 2023, at home with his family by his side.  He was the
husband and high school sweetheart of Susan (Sawitzke) Sloan for 50 years.  He was born on Jan. 8,
1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late James and Mildred (Miller) Sloan. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. 

Ron was a teacher and educator for 28 years.  He was most importantly a self-taught artist, painter and
poet.

Ron also ran an Antiques Shop in Torrington and Norfolk with his wife for 40 years.  He shared raising and flying High Flying Tippler pigeons – a throwback from his childhood in Brooklyn.  He loved walking and building things with wood and his hand tools.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Urrisa Lee Mendez and husband David, and Dorrie Lee Crosley and husband Lawrence; grandsons, Dustin Reaney, Robert Hancock and wife Lauren and Michael Rosenquist and wife Stacey; granddaughter, Brandy Lee Guilman and husband Glen; great-granddaughters, Skylar and Madison Rosenquist; and great-grandsons, Jackson and Wyatt Hancock.  Hewas predeceased by a daughter, Karren Lee Ross and grandson, Eric Ross.

Ron lived and loved true to himself.  Burial will be private with military honors at Hillside Cemetery in
