Battell Arts Foundation Scholarship for Children and Young Adults

The Battell Arts Foundation is actively soliciting applications for scholarships in the arts. The scholarships may be used to fund education or experience in any of the performing, literary or visual arts. Applicants must be residents of Norfolk or Colebrook and be in the third through twelfth grades. The deadline for applications is Monday, Sept. 18, 2023. Mindfulness Series with Miranda Lee

Practitioner Miranda Lee will begin her Mindfulness classes on Sept. 8, with the theme Finding Balance. Sponsored by the Norfolk Library, this course is offered via Zoom from 9:15 to 10 a.m. on Fridays. Anyone can join at any time. Fifth Annual Bocce Tournament

On Sunday, Oct. 1 from 3 to 6 p.m. (or until a winner is determined), join us at Ten Station Place at the Bocce Court behind the building. Eight teams of four will compete for their name on the Fence of Fame. Teams of less than four will be paired up to maximize the number of players in the tournament. A pizza truck and beverages will be available for players and fans. Come play or cheer. Email Lindsey at lboucher@norfolkmgmt.com to pre-register your team for the tournament. Walk-ons are welcome if there are spots available.

Art Exhibit: Susan Crofut

Watercolors by Susan Crofut will be on display at the Norfolk Library during the month of September. Crofut has exhibited widely around New England, and especially in the Berkshires of Massachusetts where she has lived for 45 years. Please join us for a reception for the artist on Sunday, Sept. 3, from 4 to 6 p.m., hosted by the Library Associates. 

Concert at the Norfolk Library

On Saturday, Sept. 9, at 5:30 p.m., the internationally acclaimed Ensemble Chaconne will perform Measure for Measure: The Music of Shakespeare’s Plays on Renaissance instruments. The program features music by leading composers of Shakespeare’s time with songs from As You Like It, Twelfth Night, The Winter’s Tale, The Tempest, Hamlet, Othello, and Macbeth.  The ensemble members are Peter H. Books & Boots Hike

Please join us for our next Books & Boots hike on Friday, Sept. 15, at 6:30 p.m.. We’ll be hiking on the Billings Trail/Tait Section and looking for beaver activity. The book up for discussion is Beaverland: How One Weird Rodent Made America by Leila Philip. It is not necessary to have read the book first. All hiking abilities welcome. Rain date Friday, Sept. 22. This Norfolk Library program is in partnership with the Norfolk Land Trust and the Norfolk Church of Christ Green Team. Sock Puppet Workshop at the Hub

On Saturday, Sept. 30, from 1 to 2 p.m., the Norfolk Library will be sponsoring an advanced sock puppet workshop for children ages eight and up (unless with a parent) at the Norfolk Hub. Haystack Book Festival at the Norfolk Library

Haystack Book Festival at the Norfolk Library The festival kicks off Friday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. and continues through Saturday and into Sunday, Oct. 1. The festival will consist of eight events with authors in conversation on a variety of topics from memoir to nature, religion to politics, journalism at the warfront to traveling America, and the Brendan Gill lecturer Susanna Moore.
