Art Exhibit: Jane Bevans

Paintings by Jane Bevans will be on display at the Norfolk Library for the month of October. Bevans uses experimental juxtapositions of color to explore space, form and composition. The show includes her still lifes, portraiture and recent abstract paintings. A reception will be held on Sunday, Oct. 1, from 4 to 6 p.m., hosted by the Library Associates.

UCC Ministry of Bread

Norfolk’s Ministry of Bread is a group of bread enthusiasts who meet on the fourth Thursday of each month to share, practice and enjoy the craft of bread making. The group is open to all and meets at 6 p.m. in the kitchen in the basement of the Battell Chapel of the UCC Church.

Mindfulness Series With Miranda Lee

Miranda Lee continues her Mindfulness classes in October with the theme Radical Acceptance. Sponsored by the Norfolk Library, this course is offered via Zoom from 9:15 to 10 a.m. on Fridays. Climbing Your Family Tree

October is Family History Month and a great time for children, ages 7 and up, to discover their family tree. Family researcher Laurie Foulke-Green and librarian Miss Eileen will lead the event at the Center Cemetery on Monday, Oct. 2 at 5 p.m. Each child will be given a family tree to fill out for the next meeting, on Oct. 16 at 5 p.m. Please call the library’s front desk circulation to register.

Intellectual Freedom in CT Libraries

On Monday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m., Lindsay Delligan, co-chair of the Connecticut Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom Committee, will speak at the Norfolk Library about banned books and the association’s commitment to recognizing, enhancing and promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in all forms.

Pop-Up Trunk Show

Katherine Hooker will hold a Pop-up trunk show at 3 Station Place on Friday, Oct. 6, from noon to 7 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 7, from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Located in the Royal Arcanum building in the shop nearest Robertson Plaza, Hooker will showcase her custom-made and ready-to-wear coats, jackets and accessories.

Connecticut-Asia Cultural Center

The Connecticut-Asia Cultural Center at 207A Westside Road will hold complimentary events on Saturday, Oct. 7 and Sunday, Oct. 8. Asian Cultural and Incan exhibit hall tours and Asian tea services will be held on both days. A spiritual cultural seminar and dinner will be offered on Saturday. Documentary Film: Stewart Udall and the Politics of Beauty

On Sunday, Oct. 8, at 3 p.m. at the Norfolk Library, film director John de Graaf will introduce his film “Stewart Udall and the Politics of Beauty,” followed by a Q&A. Stewart Udall left a profound legacy of conservation and environmental justice as Secretary of the Interior during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, and the full-length video biography reveals that period of the environmental movement. Books & Boots Hike

All are invited to join a Books & Boots hike on Monday, Oct. 9, to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day. Meet at the pavilion at Dennis Hill State Park at 9 a.m. to read poems by Indigenous poets and then walk the Dennis Hill Gazebo loop. Community Campfire Fun

Watch the sunset, eat pizza and roast marshmallows around a fire behind Battell Chapel on Friday, Oct. 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Bring your own chair, drinks and musical instruments. Classic Crawford Film Series at the Library

Robert Dance, author of the forthcoming book “Ferocious Ambition: Joan Crawford’s March to Stardom,” will introduce three Crawford films at the Norfolk Library on Fridays at 7 p.m.: Oct. 27, “Mildred Pierce” (1945); Nov. 10, “Sudden Fear” (1952); and Dec. 1 “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane” (1962). Full Moon Hike

The Norfolk Land Trust will hold its annual full moon hike at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Dennis Hill State Park. The sun sets at 5:52 p.m. and the Hunter’s Moon will be on the rise. Please gather by the gate to Dennis Hill State Park off Route 272 South. Bring headlamps or flashlights and wear appropriate attire. In the event of rain, the event will be canceled.
