Church Steeple Raised Back Up
After resting on the ground in a steel cradle for almost three years, the steeple of the Church of Christ, Congregational was raised back up to the top of the church on Jan. 18. The day was bitterly cold, but clear and calm. The crane strap had to be readjusted to accommodate the length of the steeple, and the steeple had to loosened from the icy grip of the cradle, but then the crew from Valley Restoration in Torrington hoisted it up smoothly and quickly. Later that afternoon, a worker was carried to the top to put the weathervane and cross back on top of the steeple. The steeple will now be wrapped and heated for the restoration work to be carried out. Completion is expected sometime this spring.
