The wait is over! Residents of the Northwest Corner have been eagerly watching the progress of construction of the Community Health & Wellness Center (CHWC) at 6-8 East Main Street in North Canaan, and it is now ready to open. A special ribbon-cutting celebration will be held on Friday, May 10, to formally open the long-awaited health center.
Officially called Regional Healthcare Center for the Northwest Corner, the new space will offer a variety of medical services such as primary care, chiropractic services and behavioral health, which is expected to help alleviate the shortage of medical providers, limited access to care and transportation challenges in this part of the state.
Joanne Borduas, chief executive officer of CHWC, recently announced the receipt of a multiyear grant of $75,000 from Northwest CT Community Foundation (NCCF) for the purpose of acquiring medical equipment for the center. Borduas says that this grant comes at a crucial juncture as they prepare to open the center. “This support will be instrumental in ensuring top-quality medical and behavioral health services for our community by helping us acquire the necessary equipment needed to care for patients. We are grateful for NCCF’s commitment and support in this critical initiative to improve healthcare access in our rural community.”
CHWC has also been supported by funds from the State of Connecticut, Foundation for Community Health, Sharon Hospital/Nuvance Health and Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation. Funders will be acknowledged at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 10, followed by a public open house on Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Appointments will be available beginning May 13.
