Collage Class
Explore the art of collage with Tom Hlas on Wednesday, May 1, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.  at the Norfolk Hub. The class is limited to 10 participants, and registration is required. Fee is $20.

Art Exhibit: Lisa Hamilton
Paintings by Norfolk resident Lisa Hamilton are on display at the Norfolk Library during the month of May in an exhibit entitled “Under a Lilac Sky.” Hamilton utilizes color and pattern to investigate how the perception of space is constructed and to reveal the dynamic nature of visual understanding, and she has exhibited throughout the United States and Japan. There will be an opening reception on Sunday, May 5, from 4 to 6 p.m., hosted by the Library Associates.

Mindfulness Series With Miranda Lee
May is mental health awareness month, a great time to learn about emotional intelligence and how it can help us regulate our moods and manage our relationships. Learn how to use mindfulness tools in your daily life in Miranda Lee’s classes on Fridays from 9:15 to10 a.m. Sponsored by the library, this course is offered via Zoom. Anyone can join at any time. Invasive Plant Talk
On Saturday, May 4, from 10 to 11 a.m., Bill Ticineto of the Norfolk Conservation Commission will present a talk at the Hub on invasive plants.

Art Exhibit at the Hub
On Sunday, May 5, from 3 to 5 p.m., there will be a reception at the Hub for the opening of “Florals and Landscapes in Watercolors and Pastels,” an exhibition by Collette Hurst. The show will run through Friday, June 28.

Writing the Self, Riding the Horse
On Thursday, May 9, at 5:30 p.m., at the Norfolk Library, Courtney Maum and Emma Hudelson will discuss their equestrian memoirs and the rise of the hybrid memoir. Hudelson’s book “Sky Watch: Chasing an American Saddlebred Story” focuses on the decline of the American Saddlebred horse in America and her quest to better understand herself as a female rider in the Saddlebred world. Maum’s memoir, “The Year of the Horses,” follows her return to horseback riding as a last-ditch effort to pull herself from the brink of depression and rediscover herself not only as a rider but as a mother, wife, daughter, writer and woman. Kids’ Fun Day
Saturday, May 11, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. is Kids’ Fun Day/Mother’s Day Crafts at the Norfolk Hub, with crafts, treats and face painting. This event is for kids aged 2 to 12, and registration is appreciated.

Arts Scholarship Deadline
Deadline for Battell Arts Foundation scholarships is Monday, May 13. Scholarships are for young people from Norfolk and Colebrook who are in the 3rd through 12th grades and may be used to fund education or experience in any of the performing, literary or visual arts. Candidates must submit a letter of application along with a letter of recommendation from an interested teacher, artistic mentor or nonfamily member to Battell Arts Foundation, P.O. Meet With Botelle Administrators
On Tuesday, May 14, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Norfolk Hub, Botelle School Superintendent Mary Beth Iacobelli and Principal Lauren Valentino will be on hand for an informal forum.

Beech Leaf Disease
Sponsored by the Norfolk Conservation Commission, Robert Marra of the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station will give a presentation on beech leaf disease at the Norfolk Library on Saturday, May 18, at 4 p.m. Beech leaf disease has now spread to all of Connecticut and many parts of New England. While a few treatments have provided some hope for individual trees, the impact on forests will be huge. Marra will provide an update of ongoing research into the biology of the disease. Hotchkiss Chorus: A Musical Aviary

Ministry of Bread at UCC
The Ministry of Bread is an informal group of bread enthusiasts that meets monthly to share, practice and enjoy the craft of bread making. The group is open to all, of all faiths or none. The next baking session will be on Thursday, May 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Battell Chapel kitchen.

Steeple Renovation Celebration
Please join the Church of Christ, Congregational for a town-wide celebration of the restored steeple on Saturday, May 25, at 5 p.m. Everyone is invited to Village Green to view the steeple, followed by cake and beverages inside the Battell Chapel. In the event of rain, the event will be held inside.

Brazilian Concert 
Fuego Sonoro will perform at the Norfolk Library on Sunday, May 26, at 4:30 p.m. These talented jazz musicians play 1950s-era Latin music—bossa novas, Brazilian choros, Caribbean rhumbas and calypsos. From lively and spicy to sweet and nostalgic, this is Brazilian music at its best. Registration is requested but not required.
