Artist Sam Guindon Plans a June Pop-Up
Fresh on the heels of a successful 2023 show at the Norfolk Library, artist Sam Guindon plans a pop-up art gallery at 3 Station Place during the last two weekends of June.
Guindon, who grew up in Norfolk, is now a teacher and student at the Compass Atelier in Kensington, MD. He began drawing at the age of 2 and took up oil painting at 19. A 2021 graduate of Hamilton College, Guindon has also studied at CalArts, the Rhode Island School of Design. the Arts Student League and the Glasgow School of Art.
The paintings in “Looking Closer” will speak to Guindon’s use of direct observation to capture fleeting moments. His approach brings an immediacy to the work, emphasizing mood over detail.
The show will be open June 21-30; on Fridays from 2 to 5p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guindon will demonstrate his approach to painting at noon on each Saturday. The opening reception will be held on Sunday, June 23, from 3 to 5 p.m. All work will be for sale beginning at the reception.
The art gallery is one of a series of pop-ups that have made use of retail spaces in the Royal Arcanum building that the Norfolk Hub has made available through its business incubator program.
