Festive Street Fair Planned for June
By Bina Thomson
Come one, come all to Station Place for a street fair on Sunday, June 23. The festivities, planned for 2-4 p.m., celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Norfolk Library Associates, a volunteer organization that funds the library’s programs and events.
When they kicked off their golden jubilee in January with a party in the library’s Great Hall, the Library Associates were recognized by State Rep. Maria Horn, D-Salisbury, for their “commitment to education and community.” A street fair seemed like a great way to keep the celebration going.
Station Place will be closed between the Berkshire Country Store and the U.S. Post Office during the fair to allow for tractor-drawn wagon rides and activities for all ages. A DJ will provide music for adults and kids, performers from Matica Circus will juggle and stilt-walk through the grounds and there will be visits from some of the large-scale puppets that took part in the Greenwoods Puppet Festival in October.
Members of the Norfolk Library Teen Advisory Council will supervise cornhole and other lawn games. Children can adopt a stuffed animal, visit with a live llama, make a craft, have their faces painted and capture the moment in a photo booth. Free popcorn, lemonade and ice cream will be served.
Adults can look for the Norfolk Library Blend saltshakers by Rolling Rock Salt and peruse a large selection of ceramic owl collectibles, the Norfolk Library mascot. Speaking of mascots, however, visitors are asked to keep all pets at home given all the activity.
“Let’s celebrate our village camaraderie and the spirit of summer. Remember, it doesn’t matter what you wear, just as long as you are there!” said Eileen Fitzgibbons, events coordinator and children’s librarian.
In the event of rain, a modified fair will be held inside the library. Registration is appreciated through norfolklibrary.org.
