Hemlock Wooly Adelgid Lecture
The Annual Ted Beyers Doolittle lecture this year will be titled “Got… Wooly?” and will focus on the Hemlock woolly adelgid, an invasive insect native to East Asia that is sucking sap from our eastern hemlock and spruce trees, leading to their death. Dr. Carole Cheah from the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station will discuss ways to combat the adelgids on Aug. 3 at 4 p.m. at the Doolittle Club House

Artist Talk in Colebrook
The Colebrook Historical Society (CHS) will host a “Friday Night Gathering” on Aug. 16. The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with conversation and refreshments at the home of the CHS, followed by a presentation – “You Can Judge a Book by Its Cover” – by noted artist Debra Lill. Following her presentation, Lill will answer questions, then the group will return to the CHS for more conversation and refreshments. Friday Nights on the Green
All Friday Nights on the Green events run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Village Green, and all ages are welcome. On Aug. 2, join in the Participatory Drum Circle with Jonathan Marshall. Bring a percussion instrument, if you can. On Aug. 9, Aton Forest hosts, serving pizza and ice cream, with Jeff Blaney performing. On Aug. 16, bring the whole family for the National Iron Bank and Norfolk Lions Club Community BBQ with the Grantville Dawgs performing. Aug. 30 is the Last Friday Night on the Green of the season. The Norfolk Lions Club Ambulance is hosting this one – an Ice Cream Social with Last Fair Deal performing. Don’t miss it… it’s the last fair deal of the season!

Personal Products Program
The Norfolk Hub will host a Women & Girls Fund Personal Product Program “stuffing session” on Aug. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. Women and girls are invited to bring a snack or non-alcoholic drink to share and help create feminine hygiene packets to be available to clients at the Norfolk Food Pantry. Registration is appreciated by contacting the Hub.

Burke, Murkett and Getsinger Art Show
Woodworkers Mark Burke and Peter Murkett, together with painter Ann Getsinger, will present a show of their furniture, painting, sculpture and objects at Station Place from Aug. 16 through Sept. 2 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and by appointment by calling 413-717-2530. Opening reception will be on Friday, Aug. 16 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Yoga Nidra with Miranda Lee
Join Miranda Lee, a mindfulness coach and yoga therapist, for an evening of relaxing mindful movement and soothing Yoga Nidra on Thursday, Aug. 1, at 8 p.m. Yoga Nidra promotes deep rest and relaxation. The Amazing Diverman at the Library
On Aug. 3, at 1 p.m., dive into adventure with the Amazing Diverman!, an eco-hero for the ocean, who comes dressed in scuba gear and advocates for the protection of our oceans and marine animal life. Discover the impact of human activities on the ocean and ways to prevent pollution. Children will find out about the equipment scuba divers use and may try on diving gear or take a photo with the Amazing Diverman. The program will be presented at The Norfolk Library.

Celebrating 50 Years of Art at the Library
On Sunday, Aug. 11, at 4 p.m. the Norfolk Library is hosting a wine and cheese reception to celebrate the work of 28 artists who are part of the Library Associates Anniversary exhibition this summer. All artwork will be for sale. 

Annual Norfolk Library Book Sale
The Annual Norfolk Library Book Sale will be held from Aug. 24 through Aug. 26. Come and browse through these amazing books, 60% of which are hardcover. Hours of the sale are Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. All books will be free after 3 p.m. on Sunday and all day on Monday. Proceeds benefit the Norfolk Library Associates and the library’s free cultural programs fund. 

Haystack Mountain Challenge
Run the scenic trails of Norfolk during the 11th annual Haystack Mountain Challenge trail races Sunday, Oct. 6. Sponsored by the Norfolk Land Trust, the challenging half-marathon race, which includes two runs up Haystack Mountain, starts at 9:30 am. The 10-K kicks off at 10:45 a.m. and includes a summit of Haystack. The 5-K, at 11 a.m features a traverse through Barbour Woods. Registration for the half-marathon is $30 and the 10-K and 5-K are $20. Households up to 4 people is $50. All races start at the Barbour Woods trailhead, 75 Lovers Lane, Norfolk.
