Calling Young Artists from Norfolk and Colebrook
The application deadline for applications for the Battell Arts Foundation Scholarships is Friday, Sept. 20 Young artists in Norfolk and Colebrook are urged to act! These scholarships are offered to students in Grades 3 to 12 who are pursuing an interest in the music, visual arts, drama, literary and performing arts. Library Exhibits Work by Bridget Taylor
Paintings and drawings by Bridget Starr Taylor will be on display at the Norfolk Library for the month of
September in an exhibit entitled “Things I Sort of Saw.” A resident of East Canaan and children’s book
illustrator, she has for many years run the Library Associates annual book sale, organizing thousands of books in the basement, designing ads using her book themed images and supervising the event. The opening reception will be hosted by the Library Associates on Sunday, Sept. 1, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Artist Eloise “Bunny” Clark Show at the Hub
An artist based in Westchester County, but with strong Norfolk connections, Eloise “Bunny” Clark will display her work at the Norfolk Hub during the month of September. The opening reception will be Sept.1 from 3 to 5 p.m. Clark was well established as a muralist and now works in acrylics and watercolors trying to capture “not what the eye actually sees, but what it assumes.”

Become an Intern at the Library
Want to find out what it is like to work in a library? There is an opening for an intern at the Norfolk Library
beginning in September. This is a one-year position that may be renewed. Under supervision, an intern
handles daily routines that keep the collection in order. Hours include one weekend afternoon twice a month. The position is open to all high school students who have completed ninth grade. Stop by the library to pick up an application.

Arts & Crafts Pop Up
Artist Leslie Watkins is planning a pop up featuring watercolor classes and holiday papercraft projects at 3
Station Place, from Sept. 7 through Sept. 29. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Thursday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays. For a full schedule of events visit the website at www.dandelioncottagedesign.com.

Retirement Planning Talk
Join retirement specialist Lori Candella for a talk on “Retiring with Purpose” on Sept.18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hub. Candella is a motivational speaker and certified retirement coach whose presentations are intended to leave the audience with new insights and actionable takeaways to guide them in retirement. Haystack Book Talk and Movie Screening
Haystack Book Talks will present a special evening with film director Susan Seidelman, author of “Desperately Seeking Something: A Memoir About Movies, Mothers, and Material Girls,” in conversation with Mark Erder. The evening will include a screening of the 1985 film “Desperately Seeking Susan,” a critical and commercial success starring Madonna and Rosanna Arquette. Scarecrows at the Library!
All children are invited to the first Corner Club of the school year on Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 3:45- 4:45 p.m. Artist Erika Crofut will have plenty of materials on hand to build scarecrows on the library’s front lawn. Students at Botelle Elementary School will need a note to be dropped off the school bus at the library.

CPR Training Available
American Heart Association CPR training will be offered at the Hub on Sept. 25 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with
instructor Jim Hutchinson. It is open members of the public ages 12 and up. Registration is required. Details at https://www.norfolkfoundation.net/hub-events

Flu Shot Clinic Scheduled for October
The Town has scheduled a flu shot clinic for Wednesday, October 9, 2024, between 3:30 and 6:00 p.m. on the second floor of Town Hall. Adult, senior dose and children’s shots will be offered. Appointments are required and can be scheduled through the Torrington Area Health District at 860-489-0436.

Annual Tour de Forest Cycling Event
The annual Tour de Forest will take place this year on Saturday, Oct. 19, beginning at the Norfolk Curling Club on Golf Drive. Proceeds will benefit Norfolk Rails to Trails and Great Mountain Forest. Registration is at 8 a.m. The Icebox Gravel Ride kicks off at 9:30 a.m. and is 29 miles long over gravel roads. The Tour-de-Forest is 13 miles long and covers a mix of paved and gravel roads. The cost is $50 for adults, $25 for teenagers and free for 12 and under. The curling club will host a pig roast after the ride; those tickets are $40.
