Voters to Decide An Absentee Voting Question
By Andra Moss
Connecticut voters have several decisions to make in November, including whether to give their approval for “no-fault” absentee balloting.
The state’s constitution currently allows voters to request an absentee ballot only if they cannot make it to the polls on election day for one of six specific reasons. A statewide ballot measure will ask voters whether those restrictions should be removed.
The wording of the ballot question, per the Secretary of the State’s Office, is: “Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to permit the General Assembly to allow each voter to vote by absentee ballot?”
If passed, no-fault absentee voting would allow any registered voter to request, via an application, a mail-in ballot, no questions asked.
