We would like to thank everyone who made the Norfolk Land Trust’s 11th Annual Haystack Mountain Trail Races on Oct. 6 a huge success. We had 122 registered runners from throughout the region, and they were impressed, not only with land trust trails, but also with event volunteers. We are especially grateful for the dedicated volunteers with the Norfolk Lions Club Ambulance and the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department for keeping everyone safe and helping to make the race run smoothly. We also appreciate Pete-za Mobile Pizza and Norbrook Farm Brewery for providing refreshments this year.

Thank you to our generous sponsors: A.B. Bazzano Fuels, Berkshire Animal Care, Berkshire Springs, BFR LLC, Broad Field Farm, Chris Peterson Woodworks, D. Scott Reeve Construction, D&R Auto Sales, DSP Enterprises, Freunds Farm, Ginger Creek Nursery, Good Natured Cooking Company, Ice Box Accounting, Louis E. Allyn & Sons, Noi Salon, Norfolk Early Learning Center, On the Rocks, Responsive Designs, Gary Sheft and Cheryl Heller, Sigma Design Studio, South Norfolk Lumber Company, WGD Wealth Management and WGM Painting.

We also had an incredible group of volunteers involved in registration and on the trails, including: Alex Hill, Alex Johnson, Barbara Spiegal, Barry Roseman, Becky Eaton, Caroline Jonker, Carrere Tirrell, Charlie Tirrell, Chris Peterson, Daryl Eaton, Dave Cusick, Emma Peterson, Hartley Mead, Jen Pfaltz, Jim Rolwordlins, John DeShazo, John Johnson, Kathy Bascetta, Katka Hannelová, Kim Thorne-Kaunelis, Linda Riiska, Marie Civco, Marie Lowe, Melissa Robinson, Ned Barron, Nina Ritson, Peggy Cusick, Peter Crippen, Robin Tirrell, Shelley Harms, Ted Hinman, Tom Hodgkin, Wayne Smith and West Lowe.

All of this would not be possible without our hard-working trail race committee: Race Director Kate Johnson, Bill Couch, Roger Johnson, June Peterson and Henry and Robin Tirrell. Thank you to the Norfolk Land Trust Board for supporting this endeavor.

On behalf of the Great Mountain Forest and Norfolk Curling Club, the Norfolk Rails to Trails Committee would like to thank all our generous sponsors and many volunteers who worked so hard at making this year’s 2024 Tour de Forest bike ride a huge success. We were fortunate that the weather was absolutely perfect, and the autumnal colors were on full display. Everyone appreciated how beautiful our town really is and all that it has to offer. With all the positive feedback we received from our riders, we look forward to hosting this event once again next fall…see you all at the 2025 TDF!
-Bob Gilchrest, R2T Committee Chair
