Calling Young Artists From Norfolk and Colebrook
The deadline filing an application for a Battell Arts Foundation scholarship is Monday, April 21. Young artists in Norfolk and Colebrook are urged to apply. The scholarships are offered to students in grades 3 through 12 who are pursuing an interest in music, visual arts, drama, literary and performing arts. European Film Series at the Library With Diego Ongaro
For his April film series “Resilience in Cinema: Innocence and optimism as an act of defiance,” filmmaker Diego Ongaro will present three contemporary films by prominent European directors, each exploring the power of innocence and unyielding hope in the face of adversity. Hack Down that Bittersweet
Great Mountain Forest and the Conservation Commission are joining forces to remove invasive bittersweet vine from GMF on Saturday, April 5. Meet at 9 a.m. at the GMF Mountain House on Undermountain Road in Falls Village. Bring gloves and clippers. Some of the vines gathered will be used in a future basket-making workshop and volunteers will receive a 15 percent discount on course registration.
What Trees to Plant
Local foresters will talk about the best trees to plant in a changing New England environment on Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m. at the Hub. Topics covered will range from managing for the beloved tree species under stress (think beech, ash, hemlock and maple) and practical solutions for creating more resilient landscapes. Sponsored by the Aton Forest.
Judith Secco Exhibits at Library
Photographs by Judith Secco will be on display at the Library during April. A native of Connecticut’s Northwest Corner, Secco is an avid photographer who has developed her own technique using textures and layers. Please join a reception for the artist on Sunday, April 6, from 4-6 p.m. hosted by the Library Associates.
See Botelle Students on Stage
Students at Botelle Elementary School have been hard at work preparing for the public debut of their performance of Disney’s Jungle Book for Kids. Performances will be held on Friday, April 11 at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 12 at 2 p.m. The annual school musical is sponsored by the Botelle PTO.
Easter Bake Sale
The Immaculate Conception Church Catholic Women’s Club will hold an Easter bake sale and raffle on the weekend of Palm Sunday. It will be in Klauer Hall, Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Solar Panels that Disappeared
The documentary A Road Not Taken (2010) will be shown at the Library on Friday, April 25, at 7 p.m. as part of Earth Forum Weekend. In 1979 President Jimmy Carter hired a CT-based energy team including Norfolk resident Tom Strumolo to install 32 solar hot water panels on the roof of the White House. The panels were removed after Ronald Reagan took office. In this documentary film, Swiss artists Christina Hemauer and Roman Keller investigate what happened to those panels and why they were removed. Team Up to Cleanup
The annual town-wide cleanup day hosted by the Norfolk Community Association will take place rain or shine on Saturday, May 3. Meet in front of the Hub at 9 a.m. Trash bags and route suggestions will be available. Let’s do good by helping Norfolk look good.
Mindfulness Series With Miranda Lee
Learn how to use mindfulness tools in daily life as Miranda Lee continues her classes on Saturdays from 9:15 to 10 a.m. April is Stress Awareness Month, and Miranda will explore what stress is and how to manage it.
