Calling Young Artists!
The deadline for applications for the Battell Arts Foundation scholarships is Monday, Sept. 22. These grants are offered to Norfolk and Colebrook students in grades 3-12 who are pursuing an interest in the musical, visual, dramatic, literary and dance arts. Previous grants have supported art and cello lessons, instrument rental and ballet classes. Visit battellarts.org or email kimcrone@sbcglobal.net.
Listening Circle
The UCC welcomes all who may be dealing with loss or grieving in any way to a Listening Circle on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 4 p.m., in Battell Chapel at 12 Village Green. Please contact Pastor Erick at 860-542-5721 if you wish to take part or have questions.
Tea Ceremony at the Hub
The Connecticut Asia Cultural Center will present a traditional tea ceremony on Friday, Sept. 5, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., at the Norfolk Hub. Registration is limited to 10 people.
UCC Outdoor Worship
All are invited by the United Church of Christ to an informal service at 8:30 a.m. at the pond at Haystack Mountain State Park on Sunday, Sept. 7. Please bring a chair. This service is in addition to the 10 a.m. worship in the Meeting House.
Art Exhibit at the Hub—Ruthann Olsson
Ruthann Olsson will show her art exhibit titled “Essence & Reflection” at the Norfolk Hub gallery space from Sept. 7 to Oct. 27. Says Olsson, “The ponds, streams and bog waters of Norfolk were my muse for 20 years, inspiring this series of paintings.” A reception will be held on Sunday, Sept. 7, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Veronika Bromberg to Exhibit at the Library
“Expressive Forms in Encaustic Work” by Salisbury’s Veronika Herman Bromberg will be on display at the Norfolk Library in September. The show explores themes of preserving memories, experiences, and trusting the power of one’s intuition. The Library Associates will host a reception for the artist on Sunday, Sept. 7, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Mindfulness Series with Miranda Lee
Mindfulness practitioner Miranda Lee resumes her weekly classes on Sept. 7. Sponsored by the Norfolk Library, this course is offered via Zoom on Saturdays from 9:15 to 10 a.m. Anyone can join at any time. Please visit norfolklibrary.org or call 860-542-5075 to register.
Coffee House Series Kickoff
The inaugural Chapel Coffee House will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., in Battell Chapel, 12 Village Green. Four musicians will perform: Joe Vasaturo, Blue Yonder, Don Lowe and Bill Morrell, and there will be desserts! The event is free, but donations of cans of coffee for the Norfolk Food Pantry are welcomed. Call 860-542-5721 with any questions.
Margaret Gibson: Dramatic Poetry Reading
Former Connecticut State Poet Laureate Margaret Gibson will be joined by actress Tori Richnavsky for a reading from Gibson’s new book, “Draw Me Without Boundaries,” on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 4 p.m., at the Norfolk Library. Please visit norfolklibrary.org or call 860-542-5075 to register.
Haystack Book Festival Returns
Haystack Book Festival returns to the Norfolk Library with programmed events on Saturday, Sept. 20 and then again on the weekend of Oct. 3-5. For more information go to www.haystackbookfestival.org; registration is recommended.

Fall into Medicare: Preparing for AEP
On Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 10 to 11 a.m., an info session on Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period (begins Oct. 15) will be held at the Norfolk Hub at 2 Station Place with Kerri Anderson of OAK Insurance Solutions.
Treasure Hunt at the Ambulance Tag Sale
The Norfolk Lions Club Ambulance Tag Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 7 Shepard Road. Donated item drop-off is Thursday, Sept. 11, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
12th Annual Norfolk Land Trust Race
Run the scenic trails of Norfolk during the Haystack Mountain Challenge trail races Sunday, Oct. 5. Sponsored by the Norfolk Land Trust, the challenging half-marathon race starts at 9:30 a.m. The 10-K kicks off at 10:45 a.m and the 5-K at 11 a.m. All runners will receive a free slice of pizza from Pete-za Mobile Pizza; Norbrook Brewery will sell beverages.
