Norfolk Library: Art by Susannah Anderson
Susannah Anderson is a Norfolk-based artist whose current work explores the back and forth between control and freedom. In acrylic paintings that range in size from four inches to more than six feet, Anderson draws from a constellation of sources—figures, nature, domestic and industrial scenes—and invites viewers to step into uncertain environments. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Philadelphia’s University of the Arts. She has had her work shown in Seattle, Richmond, Salisbury, and regularly with Norfolk Artists and Friends. An opening reception hosted by the Library Associates will be held on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 4-6 p.m.
Flu Shot Clinic

Opportunities for Reflection
The Church of Christ UCC is offering several community-focused programs during October. Vigils for Peace will be held on Thursday, Oct. 9 and 23 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the meeting house and offer a brief, quiet time focused on prayer. A Listening Circle will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. in Batelle Chapel and is open to anyone dealing with the dealing with the loss of a loved one, overwhelmed by global issues, saddened by a significant life change, or grieving in any way. Witchcraft in Colonial Connecticut
The harrowing stories of the those accused of witchcraft in colonial Connecticut will be the subject of an Oct. 17 program sponsored by the Colebrook Historical Society, located at the intersection of Routes 183 and 182A in Colebrook Center. The gathering will begin with refreshments at 7 p.m. and then move to the Town Hall meeting room for a presentation by Annie O’Brien, an educator with the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History. Her talk, “Witches in Connecticut,” will focus on the trials and executions of both men and women that preceded the well-known Salem Witch Trials by more than 40 years. The Mops in Concert
As part of the Norfolk Library’s Music Among Neighbors series, Charlotte Hill will perform with her band The Mops on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 5:30 p.m. The Mops began as a folk-forward songwriting project between school orchestra friends Greg Hunter and Charlotte Hill (daughter of Norfolk’s Meg Hill) in the New York suburbs. Joined by fiddle player Ellie MacPhee and drummer Danny Mendelson, The Mops share their intimate, thought-provoking and often toe-tapping songs up and down the East Coast. Documentary Films at the Library
Three stellar documentaries will be shown in October on the big screen in the library Great Hall. “From Sea to Shining Sea” with director John deGraaf (Oct. 15, 5:30 p.m.) is the story of Katharine Lee Bates, who wrote America the Beautiful; “Dolores” with Norfolk resident John Fernandez (Oct. 19, 5:00 p.m.) on the life of Dolores Fernandez Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers Union; and “Tiananmen Tonight” with producer Bestor Cram (Oct. 30, 5:30 p.m.), a look back at the uprising and massacre on Tiananmen Square. The ABCs of Medicare
Join Amanda Halle from the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 10:30 a.m. for an introduction to Medicare for those not already enrolled. Halle will also cover the importance of reviewing coverage during Medicare open enrollment period to ensure your plan will work for you in 2026. The Craft of Illusory Magic
Jon Brunelle will present a brief history of the craft of illusory magic on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 4 p.m.—in addition to a sleight-of-hand demonstration and a peek into how magicians’ control of information and secrecy has changed over time.
