Meeting House Gets a Wash and Brush Up

What takes 20 gallons of primer, 35 gallons of paint and no fear of heights? That would be carefully sanding and repainting half of the iconic Church of Christ meeting house on the Norfolk Green. Last painted in 2004 by Carl Gabelmann and Todd Jessup, the east and south facades received a glow up from Mad River Painting this September. The team also used six quarts of glazing compound, two cases of caulking and replaced 10 panes of broken glass in the half-moon light over the entrance, according to owner Matt Bannerman. The crew from Mad River also washed the north and west facades to remove dirt and grime while the church raises the funds necessary to complete the job. Heather Thomsen, a member of the congregation is helping to oversee the work, said Bannerman provided a generous discount to the church. “We’ve gotten some lovely gifts towards the expense, but it will probably be some time before we can tackle the north and west sides,” she noted. Some estimates went as high as $80,000.
