Eye on Town Government

Board of Finance Updates

By Avice Meehan

During a 19-minute meeting on Oct. 14, the Board of Finance received updates from Botelle School Superintendent Kevin Case and First Selectman Matt Riiska while also setting the 2026 meeting calendar.
Case has said he plans to attend as many BoF meetings as possible, addressing what was an often prickly relationship between his predecessor, Mary Beth Iacobelli, and the board. He asked for a BoF representative to participate in the upcoming effort to refine the mission and vision for Botelle Elementary School (see related story) and shared an overview of his approach to budgeting for the school. Case said he and the Board of Education will start the budgeting process with a fresh slate and not make assumptions based on the budgets for prior years.

Riiska reported that town spending is on track. Following the meeting, he indicated that the town’s transition to QuickBooks is not yet complete. “We are getting close to the end of the transition,” he said.
