A New Floral Shop Blooms in Canaan

Blake Wilkinson, born and raised in Sheffield, Mass., grew up surrounded by entrepreneurs. “My family members all own their own businesses, so I sort felt like I was meant for that,” she says, standing in her newly-opened gardening and floral design shop at 10 Railroad Street in Canaan.
Petal & Stem is the result of a deep passion for gardening that led to Wilkinson’s first business venture, Gardens by Blake. This evolved, revealing a talent for floral design and a desire to bring her eye and flora inside homes, as well.

When a retail spot in Canaan became available in May 2025, she took the leap and has been moving at full speed ever since. She offers custom floral arrangements (email her at Petal.Stemllc@gmail.com) and will have winter wreaths, outdoor planters and other greenery for sale. “I’m also going to have winter workshops where people can come to learn to design their own pieces,” she says. These will be announced via her Instagram, petalandstem.ct, and Facebook page, petal&stem.

It’s all about the holidays for now, though, as Wilkinson and her small team pot up paperwhites and amaryllis, take Christmas flower orders and prep for interior and exterior decorating appointments.
