Christopher Little to exhibit work at the Norfolk Library 
Christopher Little’s August show at the Norfolk Library, named High and The Mighty, showcases a collection of photographs made in the last year. “High” presents color images of familiar village scenes. The photographs are aerials and are rendered in the miniature style—think model railroad. “The Mighty,” in black and white, depicts friends and neighbors photographed in the Hollywood glamour-style of the 1930s and 1940s. Little, who worked as a photojournalist for many years, credits his inspiration to George Hurrell (1904-1992), the former MGM studio photographer who went on to shoot iconic images as a freelancer.Please join us for the opening reception on Sunday, Aug. 4, from 4 to 6 p.m., hosted by the Library Associates.

Tom Hlas Exhibits Paintings at the Norfolk Hub
Tom Hlas is exhibiting 17 of his paintings at the Norfolk Hub in an art show titled, Recalling the Stories: Abstract Insights. The exhibit kicks off on Wednesday, Aug. 17 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and runs until Aug. 30. Tom will give a short artist talk at 6:30 during the reception.

Caravan Puppets: Journey to theMoon
Join Astronaut Alta at the library as she blasts off to adventure onSaturday, Aug. 3, at 10:30 a.m. This fact-filled outer space fantasy includes rocket travel, lunar exploration and even… extra-terrestrial contact. “Journey to the Moon!” is an engaging tale with original music, loads of interaction, and some pretty wild puppets.

The Tour of the Litchfield Hills
Beware of packs of brightly clad cyclists racing through town on Sunday, Aug. 4. They are participating in the 16th annual Tour of Litchfield Hills, the major fundraiser for the Cancer Care Fund of Litchfield Hills, which provides financial assistance to anyone in Litchfield County undergoing treatment for cancer. Participants can chose a bike route ranging from 12 miles to 100 miles or a walk of two, four or six miles. Dunya Mikhail to Present Haystack Book Talk
On Sunday, Aug. 4 at 1 p.m., Haystack Book Talks will present Dunya Mikhail, author of In Her Feminine Sign, in conversation with Michael Kelleher, author of Visible Instruments. The discussion, a Weekend in Norfolk event, will be held at The Norfolk Library.

Remembering Woodstock
Celebrate the 50^thAnniversary of Woodstock at the library. On Wednesday, Aug.14, at 5 p.m., John Kane will offer a multi-media presentation with vivid and intimate photographs of the young people from across the country who gathered on hundreds of acres of farmland in upstate New York for the Woodstock Music Festival.    Never-before-seen photographs taken by Richard Bellak, then an aspiring photojournalist, and interviews by Kane capture profoundly personal moments as more than 400,000 people spent three days together. A cultural historian, Kane is on the faculty at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. Then plan to drop by the library on the afternoon of Thursday, Aug. 15, when the documentary film Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace and Musicwill be playing from 3 to 6 p.m. 

Annual Ted Byers Lecture
Dr. Eliza Little will give the annual Ted Byers Lecture, entitled “Tick Talk,” at the Doolittle Lake Club on Aug. 10 at 4 p.m.    Free and open to the public.

Moth Night on the Village Green
On Monday evening, August 19 at 7:30 p.m., the Norfolk Land Trust, Norfolk Historical Society and Norfolk Conservation Commission are hosting Moth Night on the Town Green.  The program will begin at the Historical Society at 7:30 p.m. and then move to the Town Green at sundown. Ever seen a pale green luna moth or a hummingbird moth? Ever wonder why they are attracted to light? Did you know that not all moths hang out at night or that some are important pollinators? Save up your questions and bring your family to Moth Night, led by Brigette Zacharczenko, PhD., a science teacher at Talcott Mountain Science Center and Academy in Avon.

Norfolk Library Annual Book Sale
The 43rd Annual Book Sale will take place on Saturday and Sunday, August 24 and 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Norfolk Library. Free books Sunday after 2 p.m. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to browse through 10,000 amazing books donated from Norfolk’s private libraries, 75% of them hardcover. Proceeds benefit the Norfolk Library Associates and support the library’s free programs.
