Socktober is Here!

For the first month of school, Botelle fifth graders have been learning about the U.S. Constitution, our government system and citizenship. We learned that part of citizenship is being engaged and considering the needs of others in the community, whether in big or small ways. That is why we are excited to announce the fourth annual Socktober, a sock drive to help the homeless in the surrounding community during the upcoming New England winter.

Students quickly got to work making this sock drive possible by creating flyers, posters and sock donation boxes, as well as reaching out to local businesses for a place to put sock boxes. To support their efforts, purchase a new package of socks and drop it off in one of the sock boxes that have been placed around town between October 1 and October 31. You can find them at the Berkshire Country Store, Town Hall, National Iron Bank, Norfolk Library, Norfolk Hub, Church of Christ Congregational and Church of the Immaculate Conception. Outside of town you can find them at Neo Restaurant (Salisbury) and Stop & Shop (Winsted and Canaan).

At the end of October, students will decide where to donate the socks that have been collected. Past recipients have included the Winsted Emergency Shelter, located at the YMCA, and FISH in Torrington. We hope you’ll join us in helping our neighbors in need!
