Morris Dancers
Three Morris dancing clubs came to Norfolk on Saturday, June 8 and performed in the library’s parking lot: Bouwerie Boys Morris Dancers from New York City, Juggler Meadow Morris Men from Amherst, Mass. and Binghamton Morris Men (from New York State). The tradition of Morris dancing is an ancient English custom, dating back to the 1400’s. Most surviving dances are from the Cotswold region west of London, though similar dances can be found in France, Spain, Italy and Romania. An estimated 150 Morris Dance clubs are currently in existence in the United States.
