Harvest Now
The Missions Committee of the Norfolk Church of Christ is participating in Harvest Now, a charity that grows food so that fresh produce can be donated to food banks in Connecticut. Help is needed. Norfolk residents who have a garden or are willing to grow vegetables for donation are asked to contact Tom Vergo at 860-379-3461 or thomasvergo01@earthlink.net. The Missions Committee will coordinate pick-up and delivery of all donated produce to Friends in Sickness and Health (FISH) in Torrington.

Norfolk Artists Art Show
Norfolk Artists & Friends (NA&F) will hold their fifth annual art show, sponsored by the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival at the Battell Stoeckel Gallery on August 10, 11, and 12. A gala opening party will be held on Friday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and the gallery will be open on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 to 4 p.m. This year NA&F artists will be donating 25 percent of all art proceeds to the Music Shed Restoration Fund. Twenty-six artists will show paintings, sculpture, photography, drawings, pastels, prints, fine jewelry, and decorative arts pieces.

Fabulous Snakes of the Northeast
Herpetologist and Professor Tom Tyning will give a talk on snakes that can be found in your own back yard and beyond – a fitting topic as 2013 has been declared the Year of the Snake. Join us for an intriguing look at our reptilian friends on August 3 from 4 to 5 p.m. The event is co-sponsored with the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and will be held at the Battell Recital Hall.
Invasive Plants Workshop
On August 14, botanist Bill Moorhead will lead a seminar on learning to identify those pesky invasive plants. This workshop will be held at Aton Forest. For more information call (860)542-5125 or email contact@atonforest.org.

Rock School House Reopens
The Rock School House in Colebrook will celebrate its grand reopening with an ice cream social and children’s art exhibit on August 17, from 3 to 5 p.m. The school house is located on the corner of Route 183 and Sandy Brook Road.

Dream On The Green
An adaptation of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be presented by the children of Colebrook on August 18 at 3 p.m. “A Dream on the Green” will be performed on the Colebrook green, and the public is invited. Rain venue will be the Colebrook Congregational Church.

Paul Rocheleau To Lecture
Acclaimed photographer, lecturer and author, Paul Rocheleau, will present a lecture on The One Room School House on August 9 at 7 p.m. Best known for his architectural and landscape photography, Rocheleau has contributed to over 30 books, including “The One Room Schoolhouse: A Tribute to a Beloved National Icon.” The event will be held at the Seymour Inn, at the junction of Routes 183 and 182A in Colebrook.

Great Mountain Forest Program
Raptor rehabilitators Julie Anne Collier and Jim Parks will present an educational program on North American Birds of Prey on August 25 at 1 p.m. at the Ted and Elisabeth Childs Center at 200 Canaan Mountain Road in Falls Village. Collier and Parks will bring several birds to the presentation, as well as a portion of their collection of artifacts. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children or $25 per family, but children should be at least five years old to attend. To reserve seats, contact Jean Bronson at jean@greatmountainforest.org.
