Norfolk Community Food Pantry in Need
Letter to the Editor
The number of requests for food from the Norfolk Community Food Pantry has more than doubled in the last five weeks. Although we can’t be sure, we suspect the increase is due to the end of supplemental unemployment benefits. With such increased demand, we are in need of food and dollar donations.
Even though the NCFP is housed in the Church of Christ Chapel, it is a town food pantry under the Norfolk NET organization. In partnership with the Norfolk community, the NCFP seeks to minimize hunger and provide nutritional sustenance for our neighbors. Any and all Norfolk residents in need may utilize the NCFP.
There are easy ways to support the pantry. The first to is buy one or two extra items when grocery shopping, such as peanut butter, tuna, soups, cereal, baked beans, canned pasta and dry milk. If each of us can make it a habit to buy one or two extra food items every time we do our personal food shopping, the NCFP shelves will remain full. These items can be dropped off at Battell Chapel any time. If the chapel is closed, all NCFP food donations can be left in the blue plastic containers located outside the back Chapel doors. During NCFP hours, there is a volunteer or staff person available to receive donations.
Monetary donations also go a long way in supporting the NCFP. Checks can be made out to the Church of Christ, indicating Minister’s Discretionary Fund/Food Pantry in the memo line, and mailed to the church: PO Box 582, Norfolk, Conn., 06058. Online donations can also be made through the church’s website: norfolkctucc.org/ucc/Norfolk-food-pantry.
Thank you in advance for helping to keep our community healthy and fed.
