EDC Hopes for Summer Nights on the Village Green
Eye on Town Government
by Ruth Melville
At their meeting on April 8, the Economic Development Commission discussed plans for bringing more activity to the village green this summer. Libby Borden informed the commission that several town organizations—including the Land Trust, the Historical Society, the Congregational Church, the library and the Yale Chamber Music Festival—are working together to organize a series of outdoor events to be held every other Friday night throughout the summer. Possibilities suggested so far include an ID walk through the trees, live concerts and scavenger hunts for kids.
As part of the town branding project, Bill Brown reported that he’d spoken with Bill Hester and Ron Zanobi of the Sewer District, and they support the idea of clearing some of their land along Route 44 and the Blackberry River and making it more park-like.
Brown also said that the Fiber Optic Study Committee had submitted their report to the Board of Finance. “The ball is in their court now,” he said.
Planning for August’s WIN weekend is still in its early stages, and letters to town organizations should go out soon. Sue Frisch says they’re hoping to have outdoor, in-person events as much as possible, but they will design some virtual events as well.
The Norfolk Chamber Music Festival is still awaiting final approval from Yale University before finalizing their plans for this summer.
And Norfolk is still “Norfolk Historical District” on Google Maps. “They’ve canceled Norfolk!” Brown said, and he, Michael Selleck and Jim Nelson will continue efforts to get this corrected.
