Remembering G. Fox
On Friday, July 12 at 7 p.m., join the Colebrook Historical Society in reminiscing about G. Fox & Company department store, an iconic Hartford landmark. The presentation is Remembering G. Fox & Co, the landmark department store in Hartford. The Connecticut Historical Society will lead the presentation of “Remembering G. Mindfulness Series at the Norfolk Library
In this four-week course, mindfulness practitioner Miranda Lee will teach participants how to live a more mindful life and equip them with the tools they need to help build resilience against the challenges of day-to-day life. Some gentle movement (no special clothing or equipment required) will be incorporated into the course, which will be offered from 9 to 10 a.m. on Fridays from July 23 to August 13 before the library opens to the public. The first 10 people who register will receive a free copy of Miranda Lee’s book” The 5-minute Meditation Journal: Quick-Guided Meditations for a Calmer, Happier You.” Please register on the library website www.norfolklibrary.org or call 860-542-5075.
Norfolk Library Summer Reading Special Events
It’s not too late to register for the Summer Reading Challenge, which runs through the month of July. Come to the library to pick up your child’s Field Guide and explore the various activities Miss Eileen has designed. Prizes will be awarded. And special programs will be held on Mondays at 5 p.m..: “The Rabbit and the Moon” puppetry workshop with Sova Theater (July 5); Parade of Books with Erika Crofut (July 12); Fun Feathered Facts: Things You Might Not Know About the Birds in Your Neighborhood” (July 19); and Grand Finale! Live Birds of Prey with Sharon Audubon Center (July 29). Some programs have limited registration so please check the library website or call 860-542-5075 to register.
Railroad Days are Here Again
Canaan Railroad Days is proud to be celebrating its 57th year in bringing an amazing festival to the Northwest Corner of Canaan, CT. Enjoy fireworks, train history, carnival, live music and much more. Come and enjoy a market of local vendors, enter raffles and contests, take an art class, practice yoga and much, much more. Festivities start on Wednesday, July 14 and run through Sunday, July 18. A full, old-fashioned carnival will be in town and don’t miss the fireworks on Saturday, July 17.
