Great Mountain Forest Executive Director Moving On

New leadership program to be implemented soon

Tamara Muruetagoiena has been appointed Director of Sustainability at the International Fresh Produce Association located in Newark, Del., leaving her position as executive director of Great Mountain Forest Inc. (GMF.)

Muruetagoiena joined GMF in 2019 to help lead the organization to carry out its plans to advance new forest management that recognizes the ecological and economic benefits of forests and to promote greater engagement with the forest among our local community. GMF manages one of the larger, private active forests in southern New England.

“GMF wishes Tamara success in her new position,” said GMF Chair John Coston. “She coordinated the effort to lead our organization through the Covid-19 pandemic period and connected us to a broader conservation organization community.”

GMF said Muruetagoiena was an important contributor to GMF’s success. She helped expand its visibility and recognition both regionally and nationally. Under her leadership, GMF achieved representation on Gov. Ned Lamont’s Governor’s Council on Climate Change, it joined the region-based Forest Ecosystem Monitoring Cooperative and became a voting member of International Union for Conservation of Nature, a global authority on the status of the natural world.

The Board of Trustees will be announcing a leadership plan shortly.
