Agricultural Fair a Success

Norfolk’s first Agricultural Fair, which took place on August 24 at the weekly farmer’s market on Maple Avenue, was “a huge success and will be repeated next year on Saturday, August 14, 2014,” reports market manager Lisa Auclair. It ran an hour longer than the usual market – 4 rather than 3 hours – with a record 365 cars counted in the parking lot and a record number of vendors and attendees.

Special events at the Fair appealed to all ages, including the Pitch Burst for dunking volunteers, the cake walk sponsored by the PTO,face painting, a display of antique farm equipment, a pie-eating contest and judging of home-grown produce, flowers and baking. The Farmers Market Steering Committee asks that residents contact them with ideas for additions to the 2014 Agricultural Fair next August. One change already in place is moving the date to one weekend earlier, thereby allowing five days of rest for all those generous but over-stretched Norfolk volunteers between their efforts on behalf of the Market one weekend and their efforts on behalf of the Library the next!
