Combined Choir Celebration

On Sunday, June 11, at 4:30 p.m. the choirs of the Norfolk, Falls Village and Cornwall congregational churches will combine to offer a joyous celebration of songs and hymns. The choir voices will be joined by the sounds of the organ, piano, cello, flute, guitars and percussion. We rejoice that live singing has returned to our communities and hope that others will come and share our joy. This is a free, non-ticketed event. 

Teen Advisory Council

Norfolk Library is accepting applications for new Teen Advisory Council (TAC) members. Applicants must be Norfolk teens who are rising freshmen or older. Applications will be accepted through the end of July. The new TAC term begins at the end of August. Please call the library for more information 860-542-5075 or visit the website to apply.

Art Exhibit at the Norfolk Library 

Works on paper by Jennifer Cadoff will be on display at the Norfolk Library for the month of June. Jennifer creates series of thematically-related drawings with ink on 140-pound hot-press watercolor paper. Each artwork is hand-drawn and one of a kind. Her work has won awards from regional and national juried shows. Please join us for a reception for the artist on Sunday, June 4, from 4 to 6 p.m., 

Friday Nights on the Village Green Kick-Off

Come sing, dance and make music with Al DeCant on Friday, June 9, at 6:30 p.m. A critically acclaimed concert performer and educator from Connecticut, Al has entertained and educated thousands of young people through his programs of music and storytelling.. Bring a picnic and celebrate the onset of summer with the Norfolk Library on Village Green. SoCo ice cream will be served. In the event of rain, the performance will be inside the library.

A Celebration of Juneteenth

Norfolk Library will hold a book discussion of “All that She Carried: The Journey of Ashley’s Sack, a Black Family Keepsake” on Thursday, June 15, at 5:30 p.m. Author Tiya Miles draws on history, art, and many other dimensions to explore the meanings held in a single object, a cotton sack passed down through three generations of African American women. In the library’s continuing commitment to social justice equity, copies of the book will be freely given to the first 10 people to register on the library website or by calling 860-542-5075; ext. 2 and come by to pick up your book.

Pet Parade on the Green

The Norfolk Library’s third annual pet parade on Village Green will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 16. Even though they’re all good pets, prizes will be awarded for Best Pet and Best Costume. Haystack Book Festival – Summer

The festival has planned two events in June at the Art Barn on the Stoeckel Estate. The first, on Sunday, June 4 at 1 p.m., a public reading of Joe Brainard’s epic poem, “I Remember” with an introduction by Timothy Young, curator at the Beinecke Library. The second event, on Friday, June 23 at 7 p.m. will be a discussion of the photographer, George Platt Lynes with biographer, Allen Ellenzweig and writer, Jarrett Earnest. Yale Summer School of Art presents Freedom to Form Lecture Series

The Yale Summer School of Art is back with its Thursday* night lectures series that take place at the Art Barn on the Stoeckel Estate. All lectures start at 7 p.m. and are open to the public and free. June 1 – Cressida Heyes., June 8 – Morgan Bassichis. June 14* – Miguel Luciano (note this is Wednesday event.) June 22 – Wayrie Koestenbaum.

Community Drawing at the Art Barn 

Come draw with local enthusiasts and Yale Norfolk students and faculty on Saturday mornings 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Tuesday evenings 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., from May 17 through August. Classes will focus on life drawing with a model.      All drawing materials and paper will be provided. Classes will be held on the second floor of the Art Barn at the Yale Norfolk School of Art. Saturday mornings will include coffee and donuts. 

Dragon Boat Festival

On Saturday, June 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the CT-Asia Cultural Center, the Norfolk Library and the Norfolk Hub are partnering to bring a Dragon Boat celebration to Norfolk. There will be information on the history of the festival, a craft, sample Dragon Boat for kids to sit in, delicious food and a parade by the participants. Norfolk Ambulance Volunteers – What to Do in an Emergency

Norfolk ambulance volunteers will present a talk and demonstration on what to do in a medical emergency. We will share some first aid skills, talk about what you should expect on your 911 call and what you can do to prepare for the ambulance arrival. The demonstration will be held on Sunday, June 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Norfolk Hub.

Earn Free Tickets to Norfolk Chamber Music Festival Concerts
