Upcoming Musical Events on Robertson Plaza

The completion this spring of the expansion of Robertson Plaza in downtown Norfolk has created a unique new space to draw visitors to the town’s commercial center. Sited above and offering easy access to City Meadow, the plaza now has substantial space for events, as well as seating, tables and an unobstructed view of Haystack Mountain.

A free summer kick-off event, “Party on the Plaza,” is set for Saturday, July 22, from 3 to 5 p.m.  A live band will perform against the backdrop of the wildflower-filled meadow and the mountain silhouette. Norfolk businesses will have food and beverage stands along the plaza offering a wide array of items for purchase. The crowd will find wings, tacos, dumplings and more from The Pub, as well as beer and wine. The Guilded Artisan will offer cappuccino and other coffee drinks, and those looking for something sweet can grab a lemonade and baked goods from the Icebox Cafe or ice cream from the Berkshire Coiuntry Store.

There’s still time for additional Norfolk vendors to join in—please contact the Hub for information.

It is hoped that the Saturday afternoon timing will encourage visitors to make Norfolk a weekend destination to take in a lively dance band, enjoy a drink or a snack and consider staying downtown for dinner before other local events such as the Yale Chamber Music Festival’s “From Baroque to Beatles” concert at the Music Shed or the rock/funk group Ballyhoo! at Infinity Hall, both on the evening July 22.

Party on the Plaza is sponsored by National Iron Bank and the Norfolk Economic Development Commission. An additional plaza festival is scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 22, to coincide with the Norfolk Library Annual Book Sale.
