Speed Bumps and Trick or Treaters

By Matt Riiska

In a recent Lakeville Journal article regarding the solar array at the Norfolk transfer station, the author, Jennifer Almquist, mentioned the SCEF or Eversource’s Shared Clean Energy Program. The program is designed to provide eligible electric customers with an opportunity to receive benefits from locally generated renewable and low-carbon sources, such as the Norfolk solar array. To apply you must be income eligible or a residential customer who cannot install solar on their home. Municipalities are also eligible so the town will be applying. For those interested, I encourage you to contact Eversource or go to https://www.eversource.com/content/residential/save-money-energy/clean-energy-options/scef-program/how-to-become-a-scef-subscriber.

One of my favorite subjects is speed bumps. I receive as many calls about installing them as I do from residents who do not like them in particular places. With winter coming, we will start to put the speed bumps away for winter. This does not give you speeders the green light to increase your speed. Can you possibly give us all a break and slow down. Where are you going, where you need to get there so quickly? Slow down, respect other Norfolk residents and drive carefully.

Every Halloween the Fire Department blocks off Maple Avenue to provide our Trick or Treaters a safe place to go. This year we will need to modify that plan because of the new early voting laws. Early voting in Connecticut starts on Oct. 21, so on Halloween we will need to provide access to the Town Hall. We will be closing Maple Avenue at the second driveway. We will also have individuals along Maple Avenue from Route 44 to the Town Hall to keep our Trick or Treaters safe.

Fall is here and we have plenty of events going on. On Oct. 6, the Land Trust will have the annual Norfolk Land Trust Trail Race & Haystack Mountain Challenge. Check out, https://runsignup.com/Race/CT/Norfolk/NorfolkLandTrustTrailSeriesHaystackMountainChallenge. On Saturday, Oct. 19, the Norfolk Rails to Trails Committee is having the annual Tour de Forest and the Icebox Gravel Ride. Check it out on BikeReg.com. Following the bike ride the Curling Club is having their first annual Pig Roast. Order your tickets early by going to the Curling Club website. Let us hope for good weather.

Take care and enjoy the fall. Winter is right around the corner.
