Curling Club Open House
As part of Winter Weekend in Norfolk, come to the Norfolk Curling Club to watch curling, enjoy refreshments and learn about this Olympic sport. A Curling Club member will be there all day on Feb. 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., to explain the action and how curling is scored. There will be doubles curling matches at 10 and 11:30 a.m. followed by a Learn-to-Curl session at 2 p.m. This event is free of charge.
Kathleen and Aaron Borkowski to exhibit at Library
Artists Kathleen Borkowski and Aaron Borkowski will exhibit their work at the Norfolk Library during the month of February. Kathleen has been a lettering artist since the 1980s when she took her first calligraphy class. She puts letters, words, and symbols together to create an image. Aaron is currently creating images using digital phone photography, which he edits and manipulates with phone applications to achieve the desired end result. Leila Philip to Speak at Norfolk Land Trust Annual Meeting
Leila Philip, author of “Beaverland: How One Weird Rodent Made America,” will be the guest speaker at the Norfolk Land Trust’s annual meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Norfolk Library. A short business meeting will precede the presentation, which includes a sneak peak of Leila’s new book. Mindfulness Series with Miranda Lee
Learn how to use mindfulness tools in your daily life as Miranda Lee continues her classes on Saturdays from 9:15 to 10 a.m. February’s theme is “the power of rest.” Learn how to use mindfulness to help you fall asleep, return to sleep, and find moments of rest during the day. Sponsored by the Library, this course is offered via Zoom. Anyone can join at any time. Pre-Kindergarten Screening
Botelle School will be conducting their pre-kindergarten screening for the 2025-26 school year, on Tuesday, March 18, from 1:15 to 2 p.m. at the school. All Norfolk children born on or before Sept. 1, 2021 are eligible to attend this screening. Swap your hiking boots for your slippers and join us at the library for a discussion of Mary Oliver’s collection of essays, “Upstream,” on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m. You do not need to have read the book to join us. Documentary Film: “A Road Not Taken”
On Saturday, Feb. 15, at 4:30 p.m., “A Road Not Taken” (2010) will be shown at the Norfolk Library. In 1979, President Jimmy Carter hired a Connecticut-based energy team, including Norfolk resident Tom Strumolo, to install 32 solar hot water panels on the roof of the White House. The panels were removed after Ronald Reagan took office. In this documentary film, Swiss artists Christina Hemauer and Roman Keller investigate what happened to those panels and why they were removed. The film will be followed by Q&A with Tom Strumolo. Concert: Irresistible Tango – from Buenos Aires to Warsaw
On Sunday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m., pianist Natasha Ulyanovsky, flutist Gonzalo Cortez and mezzo soprano Monika Krajewska will present a musical history of the Argentinian Tango as it was developed by African, Spanish, Italian, French, Mexican and Eastern European immigrants. Berkshire Bateria Samba Band
Brazilian music comes to Norfolk Library on Saturday, March 1, at 5:30 p.m. just in time for Mardi Gras. The Berkshire Bateria is a lively troupe of musicians who will perform hot samba rhythms on traditional Brazilian percussive instruments including drums, bells, and shakers.
