Know Your Neighbor

Sandy Evans is an Active Volunteer

By Michael Cobb

How did you come to Norfolk?
My husband Charlie and I were looking to relocate and settle in a small rural community to raise our daughters.

What do you do here?
I am currently a Norfolk selectman, president of the Norfolk Lions Club and an EMT with Norfolk Ambulance.

What’s the best part of your job?
I love this community and get great satisfaction in doing the best that I can by being involved in the activities of the town. I welcome any opportunity that allows me to give back.

What else do you like to do outside of work, e.g., any hobbies?
I enjoy the outdoors and especially gardening. I have also been actively involved with my church community, serving as president of the parish council. Over the years I have pursued many interests such as sewing and quilting. I also enjoy many aspects of volunteering both in Norfolk as well as other local charities. It is heartwarming to give my time where needed.

What do you like best about living in Norfolk?
In my opinion it is the best and most beautiful part of the state. It is a small community where friendships are made and neighbors are always willing to help one another.

What do you like least?
I thought about this and I can’t come up with anything that I don’t like about our town.

Favorite season?
Spring – it’s when everything starts to blossom – trees are green, the air is clear and crisp and it’s the season that brings hope and good spirits. (That is, of course, minus the bugs).

Favorite place(s) in Norfolk?
Truthfully, my own backyard.

Anything else you want to say?
We live in a society where there are many needs. Volunteering in any way brings a bright light into the world of the less fortunate, and also much joy to a giving heart. It is my hope that more people will have compassion and consider offering a little time by becoming a local volunteer. There is a great need for ambulance personnel as well as fire department members- to mention a few.
