What to Flush, Where to Mail
Norfolk Sewer District Superintendent William Hester reminds customers to be careful about what they flush down the toilet. Only the “Three P’s”—that is, pee, poop and (toilet) paper—should be flushed. The same advice applies to anyone on a septic system.
Anything else, including so-called flushable wipes, will damage the town plant and harm the environment. Nationwide, the impact is estimated at more than $440 million in operating costs alone, according to the National Association of Clean Water Agencies. And that does not account for microplastics or other materials that get flushed into the environment.
Sewer district customers are also reminded that payments need to be sent directly to the district—not the tax collector’s office at Town Hall. The annual bill will go out in July and will be payable in two installments (July and January).
The mailing address is Norfolk Sewer District, P.O. Box 402, Norfolk, Conn.,06058. The plant is located at 259 Greenwoods Road West with office hours from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 6:30 a.m. to noon on Friday.
