Big Birds Return

Norfolk is the spring and summer home of several species of large birds, including this trio of Sandhill cranes who returned on March 8. That was about on schedule according to records kept by local resident Marie Civco. Last year’s colt, as the young birds are known, was kicked out of the family group a few days later. The Great blue Herons that nest off Smith Road returned at about the same time, as did the woodcock whose calls could be heard along Westside Road.
