Four applicants for superintendent advance

Five individuals have applied for the position of superintendent of schools for Botelle Elementary School. At its May meeting, the Board of Education (BOE) decided to proceed with interviewing four candidates recommended by the search committee with the goal of recommending two finalists for interviews by the full board.

Mary Beth Iacobelli, the current superintendent, announced her resignation earlier in the year and will leave her post at the end of June. The position is part-time (2.5 days per week) and Iacobelli came to the role after a full career as a teacher and administrator in 2014.

The BOE will meet on June 3 under the rubric of the Personnel and Negotiation Committee to interview the finalist candidates and possibly vote on the preferred choice. After the meeting is called to order, the committee will immediately go into executive session.

The board will hold its regular meeting on June 10, one day before the end of school. It is not clear when the new school superintendent will be announced.

Also at the May 13 meeting, the BOE approved an increase in the prices for school breakfast and school lunch, which have remained unchanged for several years. Breakfast will go to $2 from the current $1.75 and lunch will rise to $3.50 from $3.

There was considerable discussion about the payment system used for student meals and ensuring that parents are aware of what their children are buying. Students are allowed to buy ice cream once a week, but extras like fruit or snacks are deducted from their lunch accounts. n
