Comings and Goings
The Little Shop on the Corner
Norfolk has officially joined the ranks of small towns with a great bookstore. Trish Deans has set up Les Renards & Co. (the foxes) Booksellers in the Arcanum Building, in the storefront adjacent to Robertson Plaza. The light-filled space holds bookshelves filled with collectible and other books plus a well-curated selection of small items a traveler might pick up while on holiday.
Deans has worked with the rare and vintage books at the annual Norfolk Library Book Sale for years. She says that she and Bridget Starr Taylor, chair of the hugely successful sale run by the Library Associates each August, wanted to find a way to sell more books from the collectible collection year-round.
Et voilà—the bookshop.
Deans describes the offerings as “repurposed, lightly-used books at an attractive price point that people don’t have to worry about.” She will additionally carry new release books and those by Haystack Book Festival authors.
Following a July 4th weekend official opening, Les Renards & Co. will be open Wednesdays through Sundays. “We’ll also be open if there’s something special going on in town,” says Deans. Also planned: author talks in the shop’s gracious back room.
